Entrepreneurs urged to secure IP for innovation growth
The Jamaica Intellectual Property Office (JIPO) has launched a four-month Scaled-Up Intellectual Property (IP) Management Clinic, aimed at empowering local entrepreneurs to protect and leverage their intangible business assets. The clinic will offer training and guidance on how to secure intellectual property rights, including patents, trademarks, and copyrights, to support the growth of local businesses.
The initiative is part of a broader effort to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in Jamaica, with a focus on supporting the development of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). JIPO has partnered with various organizations and stakeholders to deliver the clinic, which will be held across the country.
The clinic will cover topics such as IP strategy, protection, and enforcement, as well as how to navigate the IP system in Jamaica. Participants will also have access to one-on-one consultations with IP experts and will receive guidance on how to conduct IP searches and clear intellectual property rights.
By securing IP rights, entrepreneurs can better protect their innovations and gain a competitive edge in the market. This, in turn, can lead to increased economic growth and job creation.
