New York Trinis Celebrate Independence with “A Parade of Sorts”
In a nod to the rich cultural heritage of Trinidad and Tobago, New Yorkers are set to experience a unique celebration of Independence on Saturday, September 12. Despite the NYPD’s cancellation of the inaugural Independence Parade in Brooklyn on August 30 due to safety concerns, the community is determined to mark the occasion.
Organizers, including Trinidiana Tiffany LaPierre, have come together to create an alternative event that honors the spirit of Trinidad and Tobago’s Independence. The celebration promises to be a vibrant representation of the island’s music, dance, and culture, with a diverse range of performances, food, and activities.
“We want to bring a taste of Trinidad and Tobago to New York, even if it’s not the full parade,” LaPierre explained. “We’re excited to share our culture with the community and give everyone a chance to experience a little bit of the Caribbean spirit.”
With the energy of the Trinbagonian community behind it, this “parade of sorts” is set to be an unforgettable experience for all involved.
